The trouble with that question is that Unity is a Gnome interface, as is Gnome panel, as is Gnome shell as is Unity 2d. If you prefer Gnome Shell then probably upgrade to Quantal, although it is not going to be quite the Gnome Shell that the Gnome developers wanted you to experience (there will be two online account systems for a start because Gnome wanted to go with one that is less secure and supports fewer online services). In fact if you like Gnome Shell then I suspect 13.04 is going to be when that gets more ready. If you prefer Gnome Panel then you can upgrade, but there is a less compelling reason to leave the 5 year long term support 12.04. If you like Unity it is worth leaving the LTS. If you like Unity 2d then don't upgrade.

" If you were thinking of trying Ubuntu with the Unity interface then 12.10 is the release to go for, a lot of niggles have been unniggled and sharp edges smoothed over."

Does this mean that we should not upgrade if we prefer the Gnome interface?
