Have just 917:27, 26/8/08) looked at the page you reference. The webbook with Linux is only
available with a service. The webbook alone is only available with XP (which is what I had found
30mins previously when I did a search for it on the site. So I still don’t know what it costs.
But I shall go into my local store armed with Ubuntu leaflets and try to see one. Preferably with
a teenager or two in tow. At least we may be able to deflect a customer or two from wasting £100 and more just to install Windows.

The Maplin thing is the same as the Novatech thing. It has an Xburst processor (like a MIPS) running at 335Mhz. It does run a kind of single-user linux but it is very locked down, you can’t really install anything else on it. It is more of an appliance than a real computer. The webbook is a real laptop that will run any Linux distro.

@Terry, I just checked the link above (where it says ‘Here’s the page’), and as long as you scroll down the page a bit to the “top 10 offers” section the first two entries say ‘webbook 10.2″ with Linux system’.

I wonder what’s that Netbook they stock at Maplin (Linux only, unspecific, maybe LXDE).
